Fushigi Yuugi
The story of Fushigi Yuugi is about Miaka Yuuki who travels to another world that resembles Ancient China (but of course everyone speaks Japanese) and has the adventure of her life.  There her best friend will become her worst enemy and her greatest love can never be together.

Fushigi Yuugi starts off with Miaka and her best friend, Yui going to the National Library.  There, Miaka is drawn to an ancient book called "The Universe of the Four Gods."  Yui finds Miaka with the book and they start to read it.  The book is an incantation and whoever finishes reading it will receive the power to make their wishes come true.  Then The Universe of the Four Gods starts to glow red and Miaka and Yui are transported to an unknown place.  Worried and afraid, Miaka and Yui are approached by some men who plan to sell them as whores.  Then a young man intervenes.  He has the sign of the "ogre" on his forehead and punishes the men.  But then surprises the girls by asking for money for his services.  The two girls reply they have no money and he walks away.  Yui goes after him but is caught in the red light again and finds herself back to the library.  When Miaka looks up from trying to find some money, she finds that she is alone.

Fushigi Yuugi is also one of my favorite animes.  It is made up of a total of 52 episodes and some-odd OAVs.  Miaka seems very naive but she touches the hearts of everyone around her and earns the love and respect of everyone she meets.  I really enjoyed Fushigi Yuugi.  I think that anyone else would like it too.  I'm pretty much in love with it and now I'm getting obsessed with Fushigi Yuugi.  I have all 52 episodes and now I'm in the process if getting the OAVs.  So...go see it!
Bastard
Bastard is the story of heroes in a time where the Earth was annihilated by the God of Destruction.  The Earth has reverted to the middle ages where swords and magic rule.

The story starts off with the kingdom of Metallicana being attacked by a sorcerer and his eight-headed hydra.  This is where we meet Tia Noto Yoko, the High Priest's daughter and a young boy in which she is guardian to, Luche Len Len.  Metallicana is in such grave danger, that High Priest Geo decides to release the sleeping power in Luche.  Yoko is the one to release this power and this power turns out to be an evil magician named Dark Schnieder who was sealed away fifteen years before after almost conquering the world.  Instead of helping Metallicana, Dark Schnieder decides to his take revenge on Geo, who was one of several men who sealed Dark Sceneider away fifteen years before.  Then while their battle ensues, the hydra breaks through the castle wall...

Bastard is one of my favorite animes.  I love the action, magic and battles.  But Bastard also has an interesting story.  When you watch it for the first time, you also get a few good laughs in.  There is a lot of conflict between good and evil in this story as well as some touching scenes that are sad.  We are there to see the evolution of characters and their feelings of what's right and wrong.  I really love Bastard and I've watched it about five times at least!  So go see it!

ARMITAGE  III
        POLY-MATRIX
      an animated motion picture
Previously to viewing the motion picture, I saw the OAV of Armitage III.  I basically enjoyed the dark action OAV.  I didn't know what to expect from the movie version, but i was very hopeful.  Instead I was truly disappointed.

Earth is overpopulated and so humans colonize the fourth planet from the sun, Mars.  In a time where Mars is as developed as Earth, the two governments try to unite as one.  The story starts off with Officer Ross Silibus (Kiefer Sutherland) arriving on Mars only to be caught in a shower of bullets in a Martian airport.  On the side of the good guys is Naomi Armitage (Elizabeth Berkley), the petite cop with a bad attitude.  The terrorists flee leaving behind a suitcase containing the remains of Earth's and Mar's last country singer only to discover that she is a completely unknown and sophisticated robot and was given the name III (third) type.  The terrorist, Jean Claude, is murdering famous women throughout Mars who all turn out to be III type robots.  The IIIs function just like real humans and no one can tell the difference between them and humans.  Now Armitage and Ross must stop Jean Claude and find out the truth behind the III types.

I was very disappointed by the movie.  What really turned me off was Kiefer Sutherland's portrayal of Ross Silibus.  His voice was so monotone and passive that I was bored and turned off by it.  I couldn't even sit through the whole movie, I had to turn it off.  Kiefer Sutherland wasn't meant to be a voice actor and I believe that the geniuses at Pioneer should have seen the same thing and have gotten someone else to be the voice of Ross Silibus.  Elizabeth Berkley sounded almost the same as the original Armitage.  I didn't see much change in the plot.  Oh...I do know that the ending is different form the OAV.  What happens is that the movie just ends with the final battle and everything after that is cut out.

Rayearth (Magic Knight Rayearth the OAV series)
In this story, as in Magic Knights Rayearth, we meet three girls, Fuu, Hikaru, and Umi.  They are destined to save the Earth from Cefiro and become the Magic Knights.  However, things are very different in this version of the story.

Fuu, Hikaru, and Umi are all junior high school seniors about to graduate and go their separate ways after being good friends.  While waiting for her friends, Hikaru, meets Mokona, a fluffy rabbit-like creature who falls into her arms.  Thinking it's a fairy, she makes a wish, wanting for the three of them to stay together.  Upon doing this, she meets a strange creature with a mane of fire and she sees a strange man standing on top of the Tokyo Tower.  We later learn that the man was Clef, a priest trying to stop Cefiro from coming to Earth.  Hikaru is tested to see if she is worthy of the great power that comes with being a Magic Knight and wear the great fire beast.

There is more to the first episode, but I don't want to give it away.  I enjoyed the TV series, but I liked the OAV a lot better.  I believe that the OAV series was made with and older age group in mind.  It seems to be aimed at the more mature audience rather than the constant reassurance of the girls friendship (which got really annoying) and the SD (super deformed which means the characters are sometimes these miniatures).  Everything is very different from the TV series.  For instance, the characters are of typical anime standards, I mean they all look like they should and not dwarf characters.  And everyone is evil, I mean EVERYONE, including the Princess and Philio, except Clef.  I know this is hard to find for many people, but try I really recommend it.

The Wanders
El-Hazard the TV Series
The Wanders is a lot like the original El-Hazard OAV series, but there are a lot of differences too.  In the beginning  we meet all of the characters when preparing for the school festival.  Jinnai is caught in a scandal, Nanami is selling lunches, Fujisawa has no members to his Mountain Climbing Club, and Makoto is working on a science experiment (See, it is different.).

Jinnai tries to blame everything on Makoto by tampering with Makoto's science experiment.  However Makota has no idea what the machine will do.  While Fujisawa, Nanami, and Makoto are having a relaxing moment in the school late at night, Jinnai tampers with Makoto's machine.  Jinnai is in the middle of his masterpiece when Makoto walks in on him.  While fighting for control, Jinnai turns up the power and a gateway opens up and sucks everybody in (well the main charas anyway). The Makoto wakes up in, you guessed it, El-Hazard.  Sorry...but there's no purple dinosaur here.  Now they'll have to rewrite the whole El-Hazard Drinking Game.  Makoto hears a scream and then a young Rune Venus jumps off of a cliff to escape the Bugrum and Makoto catches her.  As they flee from the giant bugs, Rune steps on Fujisawa and then Fujisawa beats up the bugs thinking they are delinquent students.

That was the first episode or episode and a half.  It's pretty much the same as the OAV series, and I loved the OAV.  So I have very high hopes for The Wanders.  You probably already know that Makoto falls for Rune instead of Ifurita and instead of the story taking place in a week, it takes place over several months.  For those of you who didn't watch El-Hazard yet, it has everything you could ever think of...action, comedy, and even...should I dare to say it? I do...Lesbianism!!!  So go out there and see El-Hazard or The Wanders or both!

Dirty Pair
F l a s h
Dirty Pair takes place when Kei and Yuri first meet...and boy are they really different.  At that time they are at the tender age of 16 (I know it's amazing that they could become part of law enforcement at such a young age.).  Yuri, being a young girl in bloom, only cares about dating.  And Kei, she cares about her job...but only if she gets to use her gun.  They become known as the Angels.  It was the name of the two women who had previously owned the ship that they now fly.  The Lovely Angels were known for the superb jobs they did, but the Lovely Angels died.  Kei and Yuri seem like the exact opposite of the Angels.

Kei then becomes upset when another person defeats her in what she knows best, using her gun.  She then becomes upset and that's how the real story starts.  She does everything she can to try to defeat this other woman, whom nobody knows her identity.  Kei becomes obsessed, just like Yuri is obsessed with dating.  Most of the time Yuri is going on a date and Kei goes off on her own even though they are partners.

I saw Dirty Pair Flash a couple of years ago.  It was pretty good.  Most of the time you see Kei and not Yuri.  The animation is very different from the regular Dirty Pair.  There's really not much to say about Dirty Pair Flash.  It wasn't the best, but I never found Dirty Pair the best, however, it might be a good idea to see it if you can.  It gives you some insight on the past of the Lovely Angels.

Magic Knights Rayearth
Magic Knight Rayearth is the story of three 14 year old girls named Hikaru, Umi, and Fuu, who get transported to another world called Cefiro.  There they are to become the legendary Magic Knights and save the Princess and Cefiro from the evil Priest Zagato.  I really enjoyed Magic Knights Rayearth from I have seen so far (16 episodes) and I think you will too.  However there are some things about the series that I don't like, such as some of the characters have eyes like the size of tennis balls and other have eyes like slits.  There is also a lot of SD that I think they could have done without.  Also in every episode, Hikaru or one of the other characters proclaims their love for one another which can get pretty annoying.

And something that makes this story slow is how they have to walk through the whole series even though a magical creature name Mokona, who can only utter the sound "BOO" in the cutest manner possible, accompanies them and can provide them with anything they need for traveling.

I know how I describe this series it sound pretty bad, but it really isn't bad.  I'm actually enjoying it.  I'm sure that when you start watching it, you'll be hooked on Magic Knight Rayearth.

3 x 3 EYES
In the first series, we find Pai, a girl of the Sanjiyan Unkara or triclops, wandering the streets when Yakumo, on his scooter almost runs her over.  He brings her to his job (which is being a drag queen, only because of his mother) and gives her clothes.  When Pai learns his name is Yakumo Fujii, she has found the person she is looking for, the son of Professor Fujii.  Yakumo is asked to help Pai to become a real girl, when on the news they see a monster which is Pai's pet.  They go off to stop it when Yakumo is killed and Pai gives him the sign of the WU to saw his life.  With this, Yakumo can never die.  From there on, Pai Yakumo are on a journey to make Pai a normal human girl.  However, at the end of the series, Pai goes of on a battle after they confess their love for each other and she never comes back and Yakumo goes off to look for her.

The first series of 3x3 Eyes was a good anime.  It's worth seeing, but it wasn't as good as one would expect.  But if you want to see the second series, you should see this first so you understand Pai's and the Sanjiyan's history a little better than just see the second series.

In the second series of 3x3 Eyes, Pai is living a normal life as a school girl and remembers nothing from her past.  Yakumo has spent four years searching for Pai (during those four years, Yakumo has learned martial arts and some "beast" magic) and finally finds her picture in a magazine.  As Yakumo is sitting in the street in his rags, he catches sight of her and calls for her and grabs her only to have Pai run away.  He sees she has three seals on her forehead and realizes what they are.  While the two are running threw an alley, through fear Pai call upon one of her demons and one of her seals fall off.  The story continues from there in a totally of three 40 minute episodes.

I really enjoyed the second series of 3x3 Eyes.  The plot and animation is much better than the first series.  There is also more of a love story here.  I found this anime very touching and some parts made me cry.  There is also action in here.  The secrets of Pai's past are revealed, the secret of the seals on her forehead and what happened at the end of the first series.  But for you to learn what really happened to Pai, everything is revealed in the last episode.  This is probably my favorite anime.  Though 3x3 eyes the second series is not yet released in the US.  Hopefully it will be and all of you otakus can go get.

The
Tenchi Universe
                        TV Series
The Tenchi TV series has the basic same plot as the OAV series.  Except that some elements are missing or rearranged.  An example would be that the Wings of the Lighthawk do not exist but the Master Key still does.  Also, Ryoko is being chased by Mihoshi and crash lands on Earth, while Washu is trapped in the cave.  There is another Major character in here that does not appear in the OAV.  She is Kiyone, Mihoshi's partner.  While Tenchi's grandpa is the most ideal character of the series, calm, quick and very skillful, Kiyone is second.  As a 1st Class Galactic Police Detective, she is very skillful and strong, except when Mihoshi is messing up her life and career.

From what I have seen so far (up to episode 13), everyone should see The Tenchi Universe.  It is a really enjoyable anime to watch, with as much wackiness as the OAVs.  Oh yeah, I almost forgot...another element missing is Tsunami and the aliens live normal lives and not lives of thousands of years.

Tenchi Muyo!
Tenchi Masaki is a young boy who lives a simple life with farming, training, and going to school, until one day her releases a demon from a cave called Ryoko.  From there on other beautiful girls start to drop in on him and stay at his house.  From there on his life isn't so simple any more.  His simple life turns into chaos with explosions from battle, a mad scientist in his closet and Galaxy Space Police officer sleeping all of the time.  The only relief he gets is Sasami who does all of the cooking.

I really enjoyed Tenchi Muyo!  It was full of fun and laughter.  The first OAV series was great, I especially like the battle with Kagato and the Wings of the Lighthawk.  Tenchi kicks ass!!!  However the second OAV series did not have a good a plot as the first.  The first OAV series of Tenchi Muyo! is a must see.  However, I don't really recommend the second OAV series, but if you wish to see it, you can still get out a few good laughs.

                          NEON GENESIS
EVANGELION
This is the story of a young boy names Shinji Ikari.  He wishes only to be liked and to be protected from pain and fear.  Throughout the series, we travel through his mind, only to find a trouble boy, abandoned by his father and without a loving mother.  He battles ANGELs, the enemy of man and only does it to be praised by others.  He is always tormented by this.  It seems that he has trouble living and doesn't know how.

While this is a deep story, there is also enough violence in there to satisfy everyone.  But for those of you who hate hard to understand anime, you can fast forward all of those parts (which would be a lot, the last three episodes are all about the minds of the characters).  I really enjoyed Eva.  It really makes you think, but don't worry, it's not as hard to understand as Akira.  The plot is really great and I was in such a hurry to get the whole series (which I do have).  Neon Genesis Evangelion is a must see.
